In the 1960s, China ’s aviation industry urgently needed an arc-resistant silicone molding compound for making miniature switches that can withstand high currents and high voltages. Beijing Research Institute of Chemical Industry successfully developed a silicone resin produced by the direct hydrolysis of monomethyltrichlorosilane as the raw material, and made it with asbestos filler to make arc-resistant molding plastic, which solved the urgent needs of the aviation industry. This material was later transferred to Shanghai Resin Factory for production. Later, due to the lack of demand, the Shanghai Resin Factory no longer produced, but users still needed this material, and they had to ask for help from Chenguang Chemical Research Institute, which moved to Sichuan. In order to meet the urgent needs of customers, Wu Shengquan and other institutes of the hospital switched to the hydrolysis and condensation route from monomethyltriethoxysilane as the starting material to prepare silicone resins for molding compounds with satisfactory performance, which solved the users' urgent needs.
