The import volume decreased by 35.29% month on month and 21.15% year on year. As the traditional festival approached in January, the downstream factories had more actions to prepare goods. However, the new outbreak in China started at the end of January, which made the import data a hit. The following is a brief analysis of the import data from January to February.
1、 The year-on-year / month on month ratio of ABS imports in January to February 2020 can be seen from the figure above. Compared with the imports in January to February 2019, the imports in January to February 2020 dropped 21.15% year-on-year, and compared with the imports in November to December 2019, the month on month ratio dropped 35.29%. During the Spring Festival holiday in China, the downstream demand gradually weakened, and the ABS market gradually entered the closed market state, waiting for more post holiday operations. However, the unexpected public health events disrupted the scheduled pace, and downstream factories responded to the national notice and postponed the resumption of work, which led to a low demand for imported ABS raw materials and a sharp decline in import volume. 2、 Data analysis of ABS provinces / production and marketing countries from January to February 2020 from the import data of each province, it can be seen that East China and South China are still the main import regions in China, accounting for about 88% of the total import volume from January to February 2020. Among them, Guangdong province imports 128100 tons, accounting for 52.05%; Shanghai imports 16900 tons, accounting for 6.87%; Zhejiang imports 40800 tons, accounting for 16.60%; Jiangsu imports 19100 tons, accounting for 7.76%; Shandong imports 11200 tons, accounting for 4.53%. It can be seen from the statistics of production and marketing countries that the imports from Taiwan and South Korea accounted for more than 70% of the total imports from January to February. Among them, 91200 tons were imported from Taiwan Province, accounting for 37.06%; 82300 tons were imported from South Korea, accounting for 33.46%; 27400 tons were imported from Malaysia, accounting for 11.15%. 3、 Comparative analysis on the import cost of ABS from January to February 2020 the average import price of ABS from January to February 2020 is 1522.61 US dollars / ton, down 118.27 US dollars / ton, down 7.21% year-on-year; slightly down 4.09 US dollars / ton, down 0.27% month on month. 4、 Next month's import data forecast although the domestic epidemic control has achieved remarkable results, the downstream resumption rate has increased significantly since late February, boosting the demand for raw materials. However, with the fermentation of overseas epidemic, the foreign trade industry has encountered the change of cutting orders, and the export orders have shrunk significantly, and the actual operation level of relevant downstream factories has remained low. As the market performance is still hard to be optimistic, it is expected that ABS imports in March will reach the lowest level in recent years.
