Silicon powder is the main cost of trichlorosilane, which is the main raw material for the preparation of functional silane. In general, trichlorosilane is prepared by silicon powder and hydrogen chloride as raw materials, and then the functional silane containing silicon is prepared by trichlorosilane. From the point of view of assembly, raw materials occupy the main cost of trichlorosilane. The main raw material consumption of trichlorosilane is 2.77 tons of hydrochloric acid and 0.23 tons of silicon powder. From the perspective of cost proportion, silicon powder is the main cost of trichlorosilane. The main raw material silicon metal production capacity concentrates in China, the raw material matching forms the cost advantage. According to the statistics of China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association Silicon Branch, the global silicon production capacity in 2020 will be 6.23 million tons, of which China's capacity will be 4.82 million tons, accounting for about 77.4%. In terms of cost, the average complete cost of silicon metal in China is 10,400 yuan/ton, while the cost of silicon metal overseas is about 1,750 dollars/ton, which is more than 1,000 yuan/ton higher than that in China. In terms of output, China will produce 2.1 million tons of silicon metal in 2020, accounting for 69.3% of the global output. The silicon metal production is concentrated in China. China has the advantages of low-cost silicon metal, and the development of silane in China has formed favorable support.
Photovoltaic drive trichlorosilane scale rapid development. In 2004, the domestic trichlorosilane only 4280 tons/year, only four production enterprises, mainly as the raw material of functional silane. Since 2005, the explosive growth of the global photovoltaic market has driven the development of the polysilicon industry. The output of domestic polysilicon has increased from 50 tons in 2002 to 80,000 tons in 2013, an increase of 1,600 times. The rapid development of the domestic photovoltaic industry chain also promoted the expansion of trichlorosilane capacity, which rose from 4,000 tons in 2004 to 530,000 tons in 2013. The price of functional silane went down, and the foreign cost pressure limited the expansion of production capacity, and the production capacity was gradually transferred to China successfully. With the breakthrough of domestic technology, power silane gradually stabilized from high profit, while the expansion of capacity of foreign manufacturers tended to stagnate due to factors such as cost and industrial chain matching. And domestic enterprises benefit from industrial chain supporting and raw material costs, production capacity gradually expanded.
