Application of silicone modified epoxy resin in modern coating industry

With the development of coating industry, the requirements for raw materials used in coatings are getting higher and higher, especially in high-performance coatings. The most critical base material in the formula is required to go to the next level, and the performance of the base material used is required to achieve a full range of application as far as possible. How to come up with a comprehensive performance of the base material to meet the requirements of coating formula, which is placed in front of people a very important topic. In this paper, we try to use a resin to modify the main resin to deal with the problem of such requirements, and take silicone modified epoxy resin as an example to illustrate.
Epoxy resin is used in the modern coatings industry of thermosetting resin type, one of the most main varieties is bisphenol A type epoxy resin, which accounts for about 90% of epoxy resin production, which made the coating has excellent corrosion resistance, chemical resistance, good wet resistance, solvent resistance, excellent adhesion, easy to cure, but its curing after crosslinking density is high, It has a three-dimensional network structure, so there are large internal stress, brittle quality, fatigue resistance, poor heat resistance and impact resistance, as well as poor weather resistance and other deficiencies, and these to a large extent restrict its application in some high technology fields of coatings.
Silicone resin often refers to the organosiloxane, which has good high temperature stability, low temperature flexibility, good weather resistance, excellent insulation performance, its surface tension is low, good waterproof performance. Theoretically speaking, the modification of epoxy resin with silicone resin should improve the properties that epoxy resin lacks, including heat resistance, weather resistance, flexibility, wear resistance, water resistance and the recoating of epoxy resin. But organosiloxane, like the commonly used polydimethylsiloxane, has poor compatibility with epoxy resin, so it is necessary to find a new way to modify the epoxy resin, so as to achieve the desired effect.
