In the 1960s, China's aviation industry is in urgent need of a kind of arc resistant organosilicone molding plastics which can withstand strong current and high voltage to make micro-switches. Beijing research institute of chemical industry has successfully developed silicone resin which is directly hydrolyzed from methyl trichlorosilane and made arc resistant mold plastics with asbestos filling material, which has solved the urgent need of aviation industry. This material is later transferred to Shanghai resin factory production. The Shanghai resin factory stopped producing the material due to low demand, but users still needed the material, and they had to turn to Chenguang Chemical Research Institute, which moved to Sichuan for help. In order to meet the urgent needs of users, Wu Shengquan et al. of the hospital used hydrolysis and condensation route from one methyl triethoxy silane as the starting material to prepare silicone resin for moulding plastics with satisfactory performance to solve the urgent needs of users.
