One of the first applications of silicone as a coating was silicone impregnated fiberglass tape, which served as a protective insulating layer for electrical wires on U. S. Navy submarines.
Silicone was developed in the 1950s in China. In the initial stage, it is mainly used for the insulation impregnation of the coil of H class motor, the impregnation of the fiberglass cloth for the wire of H class motor and the slot insulation, the impregnation of the fiberglass insulation bushing, the mica tape for insulation and so on.
Therefore, pure silicone resin as insulating coating is the oldest organic silicon products.
The pure silicone resin produced by the old process has the advantages of high temperature resistance, weather resistance, good insulation and other general organic resin incomparable, but it also has the disadvantages of high curing temperature, long curing time, poor adhesion, high temperature backsticking and so on.
With the development of science and technology and the development of new materials, organosilicone is not the only H-grade insulation coating, and high-performance organic resin H-grade insulation paint such as polyimide and polyester has appeared.
Therefore, in order to adapt to the needs of the situation, silicone coatings must be to the new process, new technology, new varieties, new use direction.
The three defects of silicone resin have been greatly improved and the application fields of silicone coating have been expanded by the reformation of the production process of silicone resin and the new technology such as cold combination or copolymerization modification of organic resin and silicone resin.
