Typical organic resins and silicone resins have their own characteristics: alkyd resins are cheap, durable and excellent in water resistance; but they have poor UV resistance. Polyurethane (PU) has excellent hardness, gloss, flexibility, adhesion, good abrasion resistance and weather resistance; but it is sensitive to moisture and isocyanate is toxic. Epoxy resin is tough, excellent in adhesion, corrosion resistance, and chemical resistance; but has poor resistance to ultraviolet light and heat. Common silicone resins are low-viscosity polymers containing phenyl and methyl groups. They have excellent heat resistance and UV resistance. The disadvantages are that the hard resin is brittle, the flexible resin is easy to wear, and the solvent resistance is poor.
In view of the above performance characteristics, silicone-organic resin coatings can be complementary in performance to meet industrial needs. The early composite coatings were mainly silicone-alkyd resins, and currently they are mainly silicone-epoxy resins. The silicones used in epoxy systems are silane, silicone resin, and silicone oil. Bisphenol A epoxy resin has poor compatibility with silicone; alicyclic epoxy has the best compatibility with silicone and has UV resistance; silane has good compatibility with epoxy systems and can be used as Strong polar solvents are added; phenyl-containing silicones have good compatibility with epoxy systems. Therefore, methylphenyl silicone resins should be added to silicone epoxy composite systems.
Compared with two-component PU coatings, silicone-epoxy composite coatings have the following advantages: reduced labor costs, reduced aerosol generated during spraying, high solids mass fraction, thinner film thickness, low VOC emissions, and reduced harm to the human body At the same time, it also has excellent weather resistance, outstanding corrosion resistance, excellent radiation resistance, pollution resistance and flame resistance. The gloss retention of silicone-epoxy composite coating after one year is 23% higher than that of two-component PU coating.
In recent years, silicone cold-mixed modified alkyd resins, silicone-modified unsaturated polyester resins, silicone-modified amino resins, and epoxy-modified silicone high-temperature-resistant coatings have also been developed in China. They are widely used in various industries. In maintenance coatings: silicone modified alkyd resin coatings are used in television towers, chemical equipment, storage tanks, train locomotives, bridge steel structures, ship body structures, highway guardrails, etc., silicone and acrylic cold spell resins are used outside buildings On-site refinishing of wall coatings and color steel plates. Silicone modified polyesters are used for coil coatings.
