MQ silicone resins are among the most widely used silicone materials in coatings, adhesives, pressure-sensitive adhesives, personal care products, and silicone rubber formulations. The two common types are Methyl MQ Silicone Resin and Vinyl MQ Silicone Resin, each offering unique advantages depending on the application.
Methyl MQ Silicone Resin mainly contains methyl functional groups, providing excellent hardness, gloss, thermal stability, weather resistance, and compatibility with silicone fluids. It is commonly used as a reinforcing resin in pressure-sensitive adhesives, release coatings, and cosmetic formulations.
Vinyl MQ Silicone Resin, on the other hand, contains reactive vinyl groups in addition to the MQ resin structure. These vinyl groups enable the resin to participate in addition-curing (platinum-catalyzed) silicone systems, making it an excellent reinforcing material for liquid silicone rubber (LSR), high-consistency rubber (HCR), and silicone gel formulations.
When selecting between the two, formulators should consider whether a reactive resin or a non-reactive reinforcing resin is required for the final application.
