Silicone Resin is the Preferred Heat Resistant Coating for Cooking Utensils

Hits: 982 img

Coated aluminium pan is the most basic kitchen utensil, with the characteristics of light weight and low production cost. In addition, compared with expensive iron or stainless steel pans, aluminum pans use less oil, and use it to make fish, omelets and pancakes. The amount of fat is much lower, which also meets the needs of modern consumers who pay attention to healthy diet.

But for a long time, aluminum pan has a fatal weakness: poor heat resistance. That's why picky chefs prefer to use flat pans made of other metals when making dishes that require high temperature cooking, such as fried steak.

However, in this respect, the aluminium pan is also constantly improving: the inner surface is usually coated with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), which is known as Teflon, while the outer surface is coated with organosilicon polyester resin.
Aluminum pan coated with silicone polyester resin can withstand cooking temperature of 250 C for a long time, and even 300 C for a short time.

In contrast, the thermal resistance of traditional surface coatings based on pure organic polymers is not very high, but if the silicone modified polyester resin is used, the thermal resistance of the coatings will be significantly enhanced.
During the baking process, the cross-linking reaction can be completed when the moisture in the coating evaporates and the coating is heated continuously for about 10-15 minutes at the temperature of 250 C to 280 C. Silicone resin is used as a base material to wrap solid particles in coatings, such as pigments and fillers, so as to bond firmly with each other and with the base material, thus forming a solid coating to protect the product from external influence.

Silicone resin coatings without organic components have better heat resistance: if pigments and fillers are added, these coatings can even withstand high temperature of 650 C for a short time. If the silicone resin without organic modification is used, the heat resistance of the coating will be incomparable. This coating can be used for engine components. However, the use environment of cooking utensils and other household goods is far less harsh than that of engines, so there is no need to use pure silicone resin at all, and the cost of pure silicone resin is higher, so it will not become the preferred base material for kitchen coatings. Silicone resin can not only maintain excellent adhesion of the substrate, but also help to adjust the performance of the coating to meet the needs of specific applications as far as possible, while ensuring a higher cost-effective ratio.
