Silicone is an important part of the chemical new materials industry and an important basic material for the development of the seven strategic emerging industries proposed by the State Council.


Silicone products are broadly divided into four categories: silicone oil, silicone rubber, silicone resin, and silane coupling agent. The first three are hydrolyzed by dimethyldichlorosilane and polycondensed into polysiloxane (base polymer). The modifier, the cross-linking agent, the heading agent and the like are processed together and are considered to be a regular product of silicone; the latter is an organofunctional silane, not a polymer, and its use is as a coupling agent, that is, a small amount is added thereto. In plastics, the coupling between the inorganic filler and the inorganic filler can be improved, thereby increasing the mechanical strength of the plastic and increasing the amount of inorganic filler in the product.
The silicone industry chain is mainly divided into four parts: raw materials, silicone monomers, silicone intermediates and deep processing products. The upstream raw materials mainly include metal silicon, methyl chloride (methanol + hydrochloric acid) and the like. Metal silicon and methylene chloride are synthesized to form a crude silane mixture mainly composed of dimethyldichlorosilane, and fractionated to obtain various monomers. The most important silicone monomer is dimethyldichlorosilane, which accounts for the total amount of monomers. More than 90% is the foundation and pillar of the entire silicone industry. Its production level and device scale are important basis for measuring the technical level of a country's silicone industry. The silicone monomer is hydrolyzed and polycondensed into an intermediate DMC (dimethylcyclosiloxane mixed ring) and D4 (octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane) for storage and transportation. The monomer or intermediate is processed into different kinds of silicone rubber (divided into two categories: hot vulcanization (HTV) silicone rubber and room temperature vulcanization (RTV) silicone rubber according to vulcanization temperature), silicone oil, silane coupling agent and silicone resin.
