Points to note when using silicone oil for soft finishing

There are many varieties of silicone oil emulsion finishing agents, and the quality varies. There are cationic, anionic, non-ionic, etc., and there are many types such as modified amino silicone oil and linear silicone oil. Generally, the following points should be noted when using silicone oil for soft finishing.


1. Control the dosage


For example, for amino silicone oil with a solid content of 20%, the dosage of 1.5-3% (O.W.F) is sufficient, and increasing the dosage does not increase the softness.


2. The problem of shaping speed


When the factory is making some thin fabrics (such as chiffon, imitation silk, and balinese), the shaping speed is very fast, sometimes reaching 60 meters/minute. Ordinary silicone oil has poor permeability, and the silicone oil flows back on the roller and easily causes sticking to the roller. When using, pay attention to replacing the working fluid in the rolling groove and clean the roller frequently.


3. Cylinder sticking problem


When the factory is doing impregnation softening, ordinary silicone oil will stick to the cylinder wall. Over time, some black oil spots will form on the cylinder wall, and silicone oil spots will form on the cloth surface.


4. Cohesion problem


In the process of processing fabrics containing short fibers (such as cotton, viscose, and velvet), some short fibers will inevitably fall off. The short fibers that fall off the cloth accumulate in the rolling groove and form adhesion with ordinary silicone oil. As the finishing liquid goes up to the roller, it adheres to the squeezed and demulsified silicone oil, which is easy to form sticky rollers or silicone spots. Do a good job of cleaning before driving, and clean up the loose hair in time.


5. Hand feel problem


Since the market now has higher and higher requirements for the feel of fabrics, and various fabrics need to show various different style requirements due to different seasons and different customer requirements, some require smooth drape, some are smooth and active, some are fluffy and soft, and some are simply elastic. One silicone oil can generally only reflect one style. As a result, many factories have to use many kinds of silicone oil, which causes chaos in production. Sometimes they cannot find silicone oil that meets customer requirements, so they have to give up business and cause losses. We can synthesize silicone oil with different ammonia values, viscosity and reactions by selecting different ammonia values and different types of silicone oil to control molecular weight and molecular distribution to meet the requirements of various fibers in terms of softness, smoothness and elasticity.


6. Concentration problem


High-concentration amino silicone oil emulsion of more than 20% (solid content) cannot be poured directly onto the running fabric. The amino silicone oil should be diluted in advance and poured into the container and stirred evenly before adding to prevent rapid adsorption and silicone oil spots.


7. Temperature problem


The use temperature should be 30-40℃, and generally should not exceed 50-60℃. Although the temperature has no obvious effect on the softness and smoothness of the hand, when the temperature is too high, the elasticity changes greatly, and the amino silicone oil is prone to sticking to the roller and breaking the emulsion.


8. PH value problem


When dipping or padding the working fluid, the PH value should be controlled at around 5.5-6, which is conducive to improving the softness, drape and elasticity of the fabric.


9. Use time problem


If the silicone oil emulsion is used for too long, it will cause the roller to stick, especially the poor quality ones, and even form a crust on the roller, affecting the driving. Cleaning should be strengthened. Generally, degreasing agent or cleaning agent can be used, dissolved in a certain proportion and then scrubbed on the roller.
