Acidity coefficient is an important comprehensive parameter to characterize the high temperature viscosity, fiber forming performance, fusibility and water resistance of mineral wool melt.
The definition of acidity coefficient is: MK = (SiO2 + Al2O3) ÷ (CaO + MgO)

In order to further improve the acidity coefficient of slag cotton, it is necessary to increase the content of SiO2 and Al2O3 in the melt, so that the content of Cao and MgO will be reduced correspondingly. In the case of low iron content, it is bound to increase the viscosity of the melt, so that it is difficult to guarantee the quality of slag cotton fiber. When MK = 1.2 or so, there is a wide and stable viscosity range under the optimal fiber forming temperature for the melt with low iron oxide content. In this case, even if the flow stream temperature fluctuates up and down by 100 ℃, the fiber quality and fiber forming rate will not be greatly affected. However, with the increase of acidity coefficient, the stability of melt becomes worse, and the sensitivity to temperature change also increases. As long as the temperature fluctuates slightly, its viscosity will change greatly, and even it can not be made into fiber. This is the reason why the acidity coefficient of slag cotton is generally around 1.2, and it is impossible to reach above 1.6 as the acidity coefficient of rock wool.
Because of this, the production cost of rock wool is high, the difficulty is great, the chemical property is stable and its price is relatively higher than that of mineral wool board.
