Q1: what is inlay? Inlay is a kind of restoration which is embedded in the tooth to restore the shape and function of tooth defect. It is a kind of prosthesis embedded in the cavity of tooth to restore the shape and function of the defective tooth. Among them, it is usually called hyperinlay. It is to prepare the teeth into a certain shape of the cavity, and then make different materials according to the shape of the cavity. Q2: what are the types of inlays? Inlays are usually divided into metal inlays, hard resin inlays and ceramic inlays according to the different materials. The latter two inlays are widely used in clinic due to the progress of materials and technology.
Q3: what are the advantages of inlay? a. The shape of the inlay surface is carved on the model, and any shape of the occlusal surface can be made and coordinated with the opposite occlusal;
b. The inlay can restore correct adjacent contact relationship and axial convexity, can be highly polished, not easy to adhere to plaque, easy to clean;
c. The strength and durability of inlay are better than that of direct filling, which can maintain accurate shape and complete edge for a long time;
d. Compared with the full crown, the inlay system has less abrasion to the healthy teeth, and is more minimally invasive
(friendly tip: whether inlay should be selected should follow the doctor's advice according to the actual clinical situation)
