◆ Plastics Recycling Association (APR) has launched the post consumer resin (PCR) certification program to expand the supply and demand of PCR plastics.
The program will recognize and promote APR members who provide PCR third-party certification.
In order to support and expand the use of post consumer recycled plastics, APR said that PCR certification is "reliable, consistent and searchable" for producers and users of recycled plastic resins, which is crucial.
According to APR, the compliance of the recognized company conforms to the consistent and clear PCR definition of ISO 14021:2016. This will increase the confidence of recyclers.
The association said recognition by multiple trusted third-party PCR certification bodies would help "fair competition" and that APR members and others could use them voluntarily.
APR also claims that this will increase the opportunities and confidence of manufacturers and brand owners to obtain high-quality PCR supplies to meet their needs in different applications such as olefins, other hard plastics and soft films.
"APR's PCR certification program aims to actively promote the sale of certified PCR materials by APR member companies," said Liz Bedard, director of APR's hard plastic recycling program.
"This was developed to meet the growing needs of APR members and stakeholders across the plastic value chain."
According to the definition of ISO, the value of certification is "the degree of trust established through the fair and capable proof of meeting the specified requirements by a third party".
To meet this requirement, APR's PCR certification program consists of three phases. First, APR recognizes qualified third-party companies for certification. Plastic recyclers then hire companies recognized by APR to certify their acr. Finally, APR members submit their PCR certification to APR for promotion nationwide.
"The APR PCR certification program promotes a key link between the actual production of PCR by recyclers and the desire of customers to use PCR," said Greg Janson, President of QRS recycling and co chair of the APR PCR certification Subcommittee.
